Twenty-Five Things. Random-style.
1. I do not like lots of ice in my beverages. If I am getting ice from a tray, I do not like more than three ice cubes. If at one of those self-serve ice machines, I only hold it down for about half a second so as not to fill my glass too much.
2. I secretly wish I was a folk singer – guitar, stylish hippie clothes, sultry voice and all. It has been a dream of mine since I was about 15. Unfortunately, I have no guitar skills, no sultry voice, and I can’t afford stylish hippie clothes.
3. The combination of peanut butter and chocolate is my favorite food. I love peanut butter M&M’s, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, chocolate chip and peanut butter melted together and eaten on apples…I could go on…
4. Water is my favorite drink. I don’t, however, like warm water. It must be cold. This is usually done by keeping a Brita pitcher full in the fridge, or implementing my three ice cube rule.
5. Although Paul Simon holds my heart as my favorite artist, and although I usually listen to guitar-filled, indie music, I hold a special place in my heart for the likes of Beyonce and Justin Timberlake.
6. I can spend hours each day watching music videos and movie trailers. I find both to be fascinating displays of design.
7. When I am really tired and lying down, whatever eye is lower will water so it looks like I am crying.
8. About 98% of the time, lyrics describe my thoughts and emotions much better than I ever could. If someone asks me how I’m doing, I must suppress the urge to answer them in lyrical goodness.
9. I am a professional procrastinator. In fact, I work better if I am under pressure of a deadline. My best papers in college were written after 2 am. I’m not sure how well this transfers into seminary, though.
10. I really like hugs. Since coming to seminary, I’ve given less and less because I gained a personal bubble when I left Dordt. But I love hugging someone. I’ve also been known to tell people to hug better since I don’t tolerate limp hugs.
11. I am currently reading “Watchmen” in preparation for the upcoming movie. It is the first graphic novel I’ve ever read. So far, I am very much enjoying it.
12. Whenever something big happens in my life, I feel the need to get a haircut. I think this is because I need some sort of change to differentiate me (as I’ve grown and changed through the situation) from the me that was before. Usually I give in and get it cut. And it is usually something drastic.
13. I tend to be cold. I usually wear a scarf with whatever outfit I’m wearing because it keeps me slightly warmer. My feet are always the coldest part of my body. If I am sitting next to someone I know fairly well, I will stick my feet under that person’s thigh or butt in an effort to warm them up.
14. My favorite feeling in the world is slipping in between cool covers on a chilly night. I love being able to cuddle with my blankets, my pillows and my teddy bear, Alastor, in an effort to warm up.
15. I love to make lists. These lists must, however, be absolutely perfect in neatness. I’ll rewrite a list a dozen times until I am completely satisfied with the way it looks. When I cross things off the list, I must use the same pen I used to write the list out.
16. I love being read to. This is especially true of children’s books. I could sit and listen to someone read me children’s books all day. I also enjoy reading children’s books to other people of any age.
17. I am a citizen of both the United States and of Canada. I travel on an American passport. When I visit my Canadian family, I pick up a bit of a Canadian accent, but quickly drop it when I come back to the States since my friends make fun of me.
18. Whenever I give a presentation or make a speech in front of people my hands shake uncontrollably even if I am not nervous.
19. I never buy the same kind of foundation twice in a row even if I really like a particular brand. I like to try out different types. I really enjoy spending money on makeup in general. I also like to apply said makeup to other people and experiment different looks on them.
20. I am a big fan of the Harry Potter series. I started reading the books because my eighth grade Bible teacher told our class they were evil. I wanted to check for myself. Then I fell in love with the stories and the characters. My teddy bear is named after Alastor Moody, an Auror and a member of the Order of the Phoenix.
21. One of my goals in life is to buy a book that chronicles the 1000 movies I need to see before I die. Then I want to work my way through the book and see all those movies before I die.
22. My favorite tradition is during the afternoon on any given day at my family’s house in South Dakota. Whoever is home gathers to drink wine, eat peanuts, and discuss life, the universe and everything. It is spectacular and it is the thing I miss most about home.
23. Times New Roman is my least favorite font of any font I’ve ever seen. I was very excited when I found out that Office 2007had changed the default font to Calibri.
24. I like driving places by myself. This way, I can turn the music on loudly and sing as loud as I want to. If someone else is in the car with me I feel like I have to hold a conversation with them rather than pay attention to the music.
25. My eyes are 100% blue. Most people’s blue eyes are gold or brown flecks in them but mine do not. This is true of all the people in my immediate family. People often ask me if I wear blue contacts and are surprised when I answer that I do not.
