It is summer break.
My friend died last week. The funeral was on Friday. I'm not sure what to make of the fact that much of what I took away from the service was how not to officiate a funeral. Still, it was good to hear stories, to remember who Chuck was to the WTS community and beyond.
Finals week took place at the same time. Somehow, I got everything done and turned in before the funeral. Sometimes, my ability to compartmentalize is more helpful than harmful.
Now it is truly break. I'm accomplishing small things. Making my way through the Harry Potter series. Watching Season 1 of Battlestar Galactica for the first time ever. Rewatching Arrested Development. And indulging my growing love for video games with Zelda: Twilight Princess. Slowly cleaning the apartment. It is quite a productive time in my life. It's just nice to engage different parts of my brain and body. I was a bit sick of sitting in classrooms or of having my nose in a book much of the time.
In a little less than a month I leave for my summer internship. I'll be in British Columbia this year, right on the coast of the ocean, surrounded by mountains. The church I'm working at is vacant - I'll be the pastor for the summer. I've also been doing a lot of thinking about that. I'll be preaching for 10 weeks straight, as well as engaging in all sorts of other activities. I'm looking forward to it but feel some anxiety about it as well.
It has been raining for three days straight.
